Incense sticks are usually used in ritual locations such as temples, they release frangrance and small amount of smoke when burnt. In ancient times of China, incense sticks were also used to measure time elapsed, the Chinese phrase "一炷香的时间" refers to the time spent to burn out an entire incense stick. Beijing Watch designers combined this traditional Chinese element with the power reserve indicator used in a mechanical watches, where an incense stick is presented at 12 o'clock on the watch dial, and the red tip of it represents the buring point, as the main spring power of the watch running low, the red tip drops down until it reaches the bottom, telling the wearer that the watch needs to be winded.
The watch also features the Lingyan (灵燕) tourbillon module designed and developed by Beijing Watch designer Xu Yaonan (许耀南), who is considered father of Chinese tourbillon movement. At 9 o'clock is a retrograde date hand which jumps to the beginning when it reaches the end. The Chinese characters "北京" at 3 o'clock is the Chinese brand logo of Beijing Watch, the calligraphy was adopted from Mi Pei, a pioneer calligrapher in the Northern Song Dynasty.
